新学生
Before the start of each Fall Semester, the GSSWSR holds a one-day "New Student Welcome Retreat" to provide orientation information to incoming 学生 and begin connecting as a community. We focus on 社会工作伦理和价值观, learning about what to expect during your first year of the program, and orientation to the CONNECT program and the other supports available to 学生.
CONNECT:你的第一年
CONNECT is a required first-year experience program designed to facilitate peer support while sharing information, 资源, and skills relevant to 社会工作 education and practice. 作为社会工作者, 自我及社区关怀 are important parts of professional development, and the CONNECT program is designed to support both. Students join a small cohort facilitated by a GSSWSR Ph.D. 学生和每月见面一次. Facilitated conversations focus on a variety of themes including community building, 自我及社区关怀, 校园资源, 社会工作伦理和价值观, anti-oppressive praxis and social justice, 和更多的.
研究生 and Professional School (GPS) Program
GSSWSR's 研究生 and Professional School (GPS) Program offers remote and in-person workshops for enrolled 学生 that focuses on developing skills needed for academic success in graduate school. Topics covered include: APA formatting, planning and organizing a paper, 评审学术文章, 学习技巧, 时间管理. both an online workshop and face-to-face summer meeting for current and newly enrolled 学生. The online workshop is available to enrolled 学生 on Moodle. An in-person workshop will also be scheduled in August each summer.

All 学生 are assigned a faculty member as an academic advisor. The academic advisor is available to meet with 学生 to discuss their pathway through the MSS program, 讨论课程选择, and to problem solve around any barriers to academic progress and success.

Community Conversations and Open Dialogues
The GSSWSR holds monthly “Community Conversations” and “Open Dialogues." These are opportunities for faculty, 学生, and staff to come together to create community and to discuss issues relevant to 社会工作 practice and in support of our GSSWSR community.

GSSWSR alumnae/i share a desire to make meaningful contributions to their professions and the world. The 研究生 School of 社会工作 and Social Research has more than 4,000 校友 throughout the United States and around the world.
